Rapid desensitization for hypersensitivity reactions to chemotherapeutic drugs; a case series

چکیده مقاله:
Usage of cancer chemotherapeutics drugs can be associated with adverse drug reactions. When IgE-mediated drug reactions are formed following administration of a chemotherapeutic drug that is a drug of choice, drug desensitization protocols can be helpful. Hypersensitivity reactions can be allergic or nonallergic, but the clinical manifestations are similar. Rapid drug desensitization (RDD) is effective when used appropriately, however it is often over utilized instead of performing a drug challenge. RDD is both an acceptable approach and a high-risk treatment modality in patients in whom the first line chemotherapy is the offending agent. The sa

Rapid desensitization for hypersensitivity reactions to medications.
Drug desensitization is the induction of temporary clinical unresponsiveness to drug antigens to which patients have presented severe hypersensitivity reactions. It is typically achieved by gradual reintroduction of small doses of drug antigens at fixed time intervals, and it is aimed at providing increased safety and protection from side effects, including anaphylaxis. Delivery of full therape...

Rapid drug desensitization (RDD) is a technique that induces temporary tolerance to a drug, allowing a medication-allergic patient to receive the optimal agent for his or her disease. Through RDD, patients with IgE and non-IgE hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs) including anaphylaxis can safely be administered important medications while minimizing or completely inhibiting adverse reactions. Adve...

Before initiating antibiotic therapy, drug hypersensitivity is an important consideration, and a common strategy is to avoid giving patients medications when a high likelihood of severe reactions exists. With an increase in antibiotic resistance and a decrease in novel antibiotics, there is greater pressure to consider antibiotics in patients with a history of adverse reactions. The major conce...

Case report A ten years old boy was admitted for pleural tuberculosis (negative cultures, positive quantiferon assay, and father under treatment for tuberculosis). On the tenth day of treatment with isoniazid, rifampicin and pyrazinamide he develloped an exuberant urticarial rash, facial oedema, fever, myalgias, oliguria and, later, conjunctival hyperemia. Laboratory results included low platel...

Strictly speaking, biological drugs are defined as drugs obtained using biotechnology that act on the immune system. They encompass monoclonal antibodies, fusion proteins, and cytokines. Although they are restricted to specific diseases, they have been increasingly used in recent years, with the consequent reporting of adverse reactions, many of which occur during the postmarketing phase. Becau...
